Dvd Vhs Vcr Combo
Why do my DVDs play on my DVD/VCR combo play, but my VHS Tapes don’t with my HDTV?
My DVD player plays fine, but it won’t switch to my VHS player, therefore it won’t play them. I have 1 cluster of wires connected from my player to my TV(red, green and blue wires) and another cluster connected from the player to the TV(red and white). On the back of the player, it has 2 sections, DVD/VCR and DVD only. The wires are in the DVD only side, but I tried switching them to the other(the DVD/VCR side only has red, white and yellow wire holes), but nothing works. Help plz!
I got a Sony DVD/VCR combo and it does the same thing. For the VCR output, you have to either use the composite video (single yellow RCA output) or the coaxial output. The DVD player has an output with component video cables (red, green, blue RCA jacks), as well as the composite video and coaxial outputs.
It kind of sucks, because you would assume that you would be able to use the same output (component cables) regardless of what you’re watching. But, I think they do this because DVDs have better resolution than VHS cassettes and it would be a waste to have the VCR output in a component video format. Also, the video from the VHS tape would have all of its flaws magnified by the HD picture (it would probably look worse in HD than standard definition).
BTW – the red and white RCA outputs are the audio right and left. These must be used when using either the composite (yellow) or component (red, green, blue) video cables.
