Will remote desktop allow me to view video with sound and access files?
I am working on a video project for a friend. If we use remote desktop to link our computers, will I be able to edit and watch video (with audio) and access the video files from other hard drives on his computer if I use a remote desktop program on my computer?
Yes although only one of you will be able to actually control the computer at a time.
As the other person said the video quality will be bad because most remote control systems use low resolutions/colour schemes to reduce network bandwidth.
Some solutions will allow you to remotely access files on the remote computer as if they were local.
This would let you edit files on his PC but it would be very slow. If you both wanted to edit files from his PC then it would be worth copying the files from his PC.
You may want to look at the Microsoft Groove software.
I looked at this several years ago for transfers. At the time the support people said that it was being used by professional video editors so that the updates were transferred in real time.
