Remote Monitoring With Macs and PC’s?
my parents and sister always need help with things on computers, i am the only one who can do anything on them. So i want to see what they are doing when they need help on their computers. RDC (Remote Desktop Connection) works with my mom’s only and i am running a mac. I need just something to view screens i don’t need to control them, but it would help. Preferably free. I have Mac OSX 10.4.2, Vista Home Basic, WIndows XP Media, Windows XP Home.
As the above poster says, VNC is probably a good option for you as it is is multi platform (Windows, linux, OSx etc)
I use http://sourceforge.net/projects/osxvnc/ This project for my mac clients VNC needs, It can be run on demand, or as a system service on startup.
Though when using VNC there are a few security considerations to look over, especially the fact that VNC although it can be passworded, they are sent plain text. If this is on a local network you might not see this as a large threat, but for external networks, i would recommend tunneling though ssh or another similar service.
